Chatham has gone 8-2 against Gretna recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will welcome the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Chatham's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Gretna's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Chatham is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Patrick County on Monday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. The Cavaliers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Corra Liggon was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Liggon wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayleigh Harmon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Gretna hadn't done well against Appomattox County recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hawks came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 5-2. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Alyssa Keesee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.
Gretna's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Chatham, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chatham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gretna struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chatham skirted past Gretna 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
