The Franklin Indians will challenge the Hereford Bulls at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Franklin didn't have quite enough to beat Carver A&T and fell 6-5. The contest marked the Indians' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Jada Lochary made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Lanee Houser was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hereford strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Kenwood with a sharp 14-4 win. The Bulls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Lauren Clement was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Hereford let Ellie Lanford and Aly Wegrzyn run wild. Lanford scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Wegrzyn scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Morgan Hall, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Hereford hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
This is the second loss in a row for Franklin and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Hereford, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .397. However, it's not like Hereford struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Hereford when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
