University Prep is 3-0 against Central Valley since April of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The University Prep Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Central Valley Falcons at 7:30 p.m. University Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 378 points over their last eight matchups.
University Prep put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Yreka 47-14 at home. University Prep's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
University Prep relied on the efforts of Bailey Wurzer, who picked up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Sawyer Hokanson, who threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. Hokanson hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for five straight games. DJ Maples also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 41-6, which was the final score in Central Valley's tilt against Lassen on Friday. Central Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
University Prep's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 McKinleyville and 1-9 Central Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.6% over those games). As for Central Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: University Prep has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Central Valley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 229.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for University Prep against Central Valley when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 44-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for University Prep since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
