West Wendover is a perfect 10-0 against Pershing County since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The West Wendover Wolverines will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Pershing County Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. West Wendover is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Pershing County will be up against a hot West Wendover squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. West Wendover came out on top against Sierra Lutheran by a score of 6-1 on Saturday.
Adrian Perez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Soriano, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Pershing County and North Tahoe, and North Tahoe kept the tradition alive. Pershing County came up short against North Tahoe on Saturday, falling 15-8.
Ayden Montes and Cade Liebsack did some serious damage despite the final result: Montes scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Liebsack scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Liebsack also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. Michael Reitz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Even though they lost, Pershing County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
West Wendover's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing ten strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.75 in the others. As for Pershing County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Wendover has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pershing County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
West Wendover took their win against Pershing County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 20-3. Does West Wendover have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pershing County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
