4A Region III District 18 recap October 22, 2013
Willis moved up to 733 from 775 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 18. The Wildkats were able to move up by losing to Montgomery 24-21.
Brenham added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rudder, 48-24. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Cubs.
Brady Batten threw for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Batten put up the best numbers through the air as the Rangers fell to Brenham. Batten's favorite target this week was Darrien Williams, who caught 5 passes for 118 yards.
Rudder's Batten and Isaiah Johnson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Batten has thrown for 1,116 yards this season, while Johnson has 29 catches for 547 yards. Glen West's team's Earnest Patterson leads the league in rushing yards with 901.
Patterson of the the Cubs is just 99 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Patterson has rushed for 901 yards on 115 carries so far this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when C.M. Pier's team's Johnson goes up against Willis' Morece Johnson.
Next week's game between the Rangers and Audie Jackson's team will feature an aerial matchup as Batten tests his arm against Johnson's defensive ability.
A big matchup in 4A Region III District 18 this week will be when Brenham takes on the Bulldogs. The Cubs are in first place, while Magnolia is in fifth place.
Rudder lost to Brenham 48-24 last week, the largest margin of any game. Batten in the loss.
