On Tuesday, the Parkersburg Big Reds faced the Huntington Highlanders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkersburg walked away with a 66-57 win over the Highlanders. Given Parkersburg's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Highlanders are ranked 25th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trinity Balog was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with two steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Flanagan, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Parkersburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Huntington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
Parkersburg will head out on the road to square off against the Flying Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Huntington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Minutemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lewis County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
