Westwood has gone 8-2 against Mahwah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Thunderbirds at 4:15 p.m. Westwood will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Westwood was able to grind out a solid victory over Nutley, taking the game 4-1.
Jack Turcina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Steve Klein, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Walsh, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mahwah earned a 6-3 win over Paramus on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbirds.
Chris Defelice looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Bobby Gourley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Mackey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mahwah's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Westwood, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Westwood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mahwah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Westwood's way against Mahwah in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Westwood made off with an 8-2 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Thunderbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
