The Grenada Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Gulfport Admirals at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grenada's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Gulfport's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Grenada took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over Cleveland Central. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Hunter Watson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Drew Klinck was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Layne Gillon, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Grenada always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Gulfport sidestepped Pascagoula for a 3-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Admirals in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.
Gulfport also got a great performance from Taevion Collier as he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Collier is becoming a predictor of Gulfport's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Gulfport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Little, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. James Van Slyke was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Grenada has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. Gulfport now has a winning record of 5-4.
