Hopewell is a perfect 10-0 against North Mecklenburg since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Hopewell's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so North Mecklenburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Hopewell's win against Covenant Day wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Titans had just enough and edged out the Lions 3-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg entered their tilt with Chambers last Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Alex Beall made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for North Mecklenburg: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 6-7 otherwise. Beall was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI.
In other batting news, North Mecklenburg got a massive performance out of Jordan Patterson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Patterson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Ryan Clark was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
North Mecklenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.
Hopewell's record now sits at 16-4. As for North Mecklenburg, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Everything went Hopewell's way against North Mecklenburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Hopewell made off with a 17-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
