Basketball Recap: Blue Valley Southwest Comes Up Short

Blue Valley Southwest lost against Saint Thomas Aquinas back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Blue Valley Southwest Timberwolves were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to the Saint Thomas Aquinas Saints. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Saints are ranked 16th).

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joshua Arterburn, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. Arterburn continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Eli Mick, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 16 points.

Saint Thomas Aquinas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was London Burton out in front who went 8-for-14 en route to 20 points and three steals. Burton has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brett Yankovich, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 18 points and five boards.

Blue Valley Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Saint Thomas Aquinas, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Blue Valley Southwest has already played their next game (against Blue Valley West), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Saint Thomas Aquinas, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-38 loss against Blue Valley on the 21st.
