The Davis Sr. Blue Devils were the 66-61 winner over the Ponderosa Bruins when they last played one another back in December of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. Davis Sr. was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 61-60 to Ponderosa. Davis Sr. has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Davis Sr.'s defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek Barker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barker has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mcmurray, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Davis Sr. smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Ponderosa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lake Liebscher led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Keenan Patterson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Davis Sr. has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Ponderosa, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Davis Sr. will face off against Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Davis Sr. likes a good challenge. As for Ponderosa, they will head out on the road to take on West Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
