Martin County came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Johnson Central Golden Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 87-71. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 101-89 victory two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Johnson Central still got an impressive performance from Austin Slone, who dropped a double-double with 41 points and ten rebounds. Johnson Central is 10-2 when Slone posts eight or more boards, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kyle Rose, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Martin County's victory bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Johnson Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.

Martin County will be taking part in a tournament against Phelps at 7:00 p.m. on March 8th. Martin County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Phelps likes a good challenge. As for Johnson Central, they have already played their next match, a 94-82 loss against Lawrence County on the 1st.
