The Greencastle Tiger Cubs won the last time they faced the Clay City Eels, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Greencastle rang in the new year with a 56-45 win over Clay City.
Evelyn Briones was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 18 points along with four steals. Madi Plew was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 15 rebounds.
Clay City's loss came despite strong showings from Kailyn Kirkling and Lulu Koehler. Kirkling scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Koehler scored 14 points along with four steals. Koehler continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigale Shearer, who scored two points.
Greencastle's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Clay City, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-11.
Greencastle will take on Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northview is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Clay City, they will head out on the road to face off against Owen Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Owen Valley has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 21.
