Baseball Recap: Thornton Has No Trouble Against Hansberry

While Thornton put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Hansberry. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Bengals. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Lamar Dawson made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Dawson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Thornton let Jovontae Wade and Antoine Bishop run wild. Wade got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Bishop went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Wade has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Edwin Salas was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Thornton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .826. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Thornton now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Hansberry, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton will square off against Crete-Monee at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hansberry, they will take on Butler on Saturday.
