The Atascadero Greyhounds put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Cabrillo 55-13 at home. The result was nothing new for Atascadero, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atascadero to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kane Cooks, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 118 yards and a touchdown on only ten passes. Cooks is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mateo Cano, who rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries.
When it comes to explaining why Cabrillo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Blake Gregory. Despite the final result, he picked up 191 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Gregory was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 62 yards. Gage Mattis was another key contributor, throwing for 375 yards and two touchdowns.
Atascadero's victory was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23 points. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atascadero will take on Pioneer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cabrillo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Morro Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Morro Bay is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
