The Darien Blue Wave pushed their score all the way to 59 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stamford. While losing is never fun, Darien can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Stamford is ranked 13th).
Stamford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ejai Presley, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Presley is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Damar Taylor, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Darien's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-6. As for Stamford, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Darien will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully St. Joseph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday. As for Stamford, they will be playing at home against Staples at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
