Football Recap: Riverside Piles Up the Points Against Irvin

Riverside won the last time they faced Irvin and things went their way on Saturday too. The Rangers breezed past the Rockets to the tune of 48-13. That looming 48-13 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rangers yet this season.

It was another big night for Carlos Rojas III, who rushed for 214 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, and also threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Derek Armendariz, who gained 120 total yards and a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Riverside proved: they limited Irvin to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Sebastian Archibeque for the heroic effort on defense: he. Riverside didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.2.

Riverside's defense didn't let Dallas Medina., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Irvin's QB won't forget Esgar Medina anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Irvin's loss came despite strong showings from Dallas and Michael Salazar. Dallas rushed for 34 yards and one score, while Salazar picked up 120 receiving yards. Salazar was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 54 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Riverside and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points over those games. As for Irvin, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, Riverside and Irvin will both be playing Bowie the next time they take the field. The Rockets will host the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Rangers will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on October 2.
