The Douglas Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Spanish Springs Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Galena scored an imposing 62 points on Tuesday, Douglas still came out on top. Douglas walked away with a 71-62 victory over the Grizzlies. The win was a breath of fresh air for Douglas as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Douglas relied on the efforts of Jett Lehmann, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds, and Kyle Koontz, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 20 rebounds. Lehmann hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Caden Thacker, who scored 15 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Spanish Springs waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. Everything went their way against Bishop Manogue as Spanish Springs made off with a 67-44 win.
It was another big night for Travis Lee, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah McBride, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Douglas' victory bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Spanish Springs, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Douglas have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.1% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Spanish Springs struggles in that department as they've made 39.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Douglas beat the Cougars 62-53 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Douglas since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
