The Virginia Academy Patriots pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Evergreen Christian on the road by a decisive 80-64 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (57), Virginia Academy still had to take the loss.
Virginia Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rondel Jones Jr., who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kevin Reyes Jr., who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Evergreen Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jackson Britt, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Shelton, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Virginia Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-17. As for Evergreen Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-6.
Virginia Academy will head out on the road to square off against Benedictine at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Benedictine presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Virginia Academy in Virginia (Benedictine is ranked 29th, while Virginia Academy is ranked 175th). As for Evergreen Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Highland at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
