Softball Recap: Mccurdy Has No Trouble Against Logan

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mora, McCurdy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Logan Longhorns with a sharp 16-1 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Bobcats this season.

Gabriela Velasquez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mariana Arambula, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Amanda Tafoya, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

McCurdy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

McCurdy's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Logan, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McCurdy will host Wingate at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Logan, they will be playing at home against Raton at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
