The Leake Academy Rebels are taking a road trip to face off against the Lamar Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leake Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Leake Academy lost 8-1 to Simpson Academy on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rebels have suffered against the Cougars since April 1, 2022.
Leake Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Page, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Page brought in this season.
Even though they lost, Leake Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lamar won against Wayne Academy on Thursday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Lamar was the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Wayne Academy. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Sullivan Reed made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only five hits, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Whitcomb, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played. Nate Lee was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Lamar is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Leake Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Everything went Leake Academy's way against Lamar in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Leake Academy made off with a 9-0 win. Will Leake Academy repeat their success, or does Lamar has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
