After flying high against the Clayton Comets last Tuesday, the South Garner Titans came back down to earth. South Garner fell to Willow Spring 59-54. South Garner has struggled against Willow Spring recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Titans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Moore, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Moore hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Tamia Darden was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Willow Spring was led to victory by Kayleen Grullon and Zariah Burnette. Grullon scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Burnette scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals. Burnette is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanda Mitchell, who scored five points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
South Garner's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Willow Spring, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home.
South Garner will take on Corinth Holders at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully South Garner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. As for Willow Spring, they will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Willow Spring is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season.
