Raceland has won 18 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Russell has won 18 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Rams will welcome the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Raceland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Pikeville, who was ranked 20th at the time (Raceland was ranked 11th). The Rams blew past the Panthers 10-2 on Friday. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Parker Ison made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Landon Bloss was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Michael Pennington was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Raceland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pikeville only posted an OBP of .320.
Meanwhile, Russell was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Mason County by a score of 12-8.
Like Raceland, Russell also got a great game from a two-way player: Layne Paxson. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Paxson was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Raceland's win bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Russell, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Raceland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Russell struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Raceland came out on top in a nail-biter against Russell in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
