Even though the Battle Mountain Longhorns scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Yerington Lions still came out on top. Yerington took their matchup against Battle Mountain 63-55. That's another feather in the cap for Yerington, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Yerington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colby Rowe, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rowe has scored all season. Kp Picotte jr was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Battle Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Geovanni Ruvalcaba scored 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Ruvalcaba is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zayne Hall, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Yerington has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Battle Mountain, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.
Yerington will take on Sierra Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Battle Mountain, they will head out on the road to square off against North Tahoe at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
