Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Chloe Spreen of
Bedford North Lawrence (Bedford) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Indiana High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 5-foot-9 junior guard led the Stars to a 27-3 record and the Class 4A state championship.
For the season, Spreen averaged 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. She shined in the postseason, scoring 123 points over seven games including 20 in the title game.
Spreen received her first scholarship offer as an eighth-grader from Indiana. Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Vanderbilt are among other college programs involved in her recruitment.
Ashlynn Shade of Noblesville was the 2021-22 MaxPreps Indiana Player of the Year. Shade, a UConn commit, led the Millers to the Class 4A title,
averaging 20.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game before transferring to La Lumiere for her senior season.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in April.
