2A-1 Region II District 8 recap October 1, 2013
Daingerfield scaled the state rankings by moving to 411 from 463 this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 8. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Redwater 26-7.
New Boston extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Queen City, 48-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Lions.
Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Sam Alston has thrown for 741 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Kris Ables has 21 catches for 360 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Mt. Vernon's Ables goes up against Prairiland's Chase Reynolds.
Next week's game between the Tigers and the Patriots will feature an aerial matchup as Alston tests his arm against Reynolds' defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Daingerfield takes on New Boston. The Tigers are in fifth place, while the Lions are in first place.
The league will see a high scoring game when Prairiland and Mt. Vernon face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Alex Richters' team comes in having scored 81 this season, while Michael Alexander's team has scored 143.
Daingerfield made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,918 from 4,459. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 26-7 victory over the Dragons last week.
