The Kings Mountain Mountaineers posted their biggest victory since December 15, 2023 on Saturday. Everything went their way against West Charlotte as Kings Mountain made off with a 74-52 victory. Given Kings Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while West Charlotte is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kings Mountain was led to victory by Caleb Nixon and Bradley Floyd. Nixon went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 3 assists, while Floyd scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Floyd hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kee'donn Linney, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why West Charlotte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Damani Day. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. Day continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bamara Kone, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Kings Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for West Charlotte, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kings Mountain will take on Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Kings Mountain likes a good challenge. As for West Charlotte, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harding University at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
