Basketball Recap: Lake Lure Classical Academy Find Success

While Lake Lure Classical Academy's victory against Challenger wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-66 win over the Challenger Firebirds on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raptors have posted against the Firebirds since November 27, 2018.

It was another big night for D Watkins, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 31 points along with seven boards and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashawn Camp, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 24 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Watkins wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Lake Lure Classical Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Challenger's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Riley Annis, who went 8 of 20 en route to 25 points and seven steals, and Zion Wright, who went 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Annis is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Reinhardt, who posted seven points along with 15 rebounds and five assists.

Lake Lure Classical Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Challenger, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
