The Bayside Marlins will head out on the road to square off against the Great Bridge Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Great Bridge took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Bayside, who comes in off a win.
Bayside hadn't beaten Princess Anne on the road since May 13, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Marlins were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Cavaliers. The Marlins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Carli Melton and Kennedy Allen were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Melton didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Allen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Melton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Melton went 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs, while Allen went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI Melton has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Madison Matthews was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caidyn Doss, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Bayside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Great Bridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Ocean Lakes. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.
Bailey Bliven spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
Bayside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Great Bridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.
Bayside couldn't quite finish off Great Bridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Marlins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
