The Southwestern Rebels will square off against the Edinburgh Lancers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Southwestern has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Edinburgh will arrive with six straight victories.
Southwestern couldn't beat Christian Academy on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fourth inning. The Rebels fell 10-7 to the Warriors.
Rorie Scroggins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Myah Hofelich, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Edinburgh not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 14-0). They blew past Greenwood Christian Academy 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Chole Hancock made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Kenna Streeval was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Eloise Cox, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Edinburgh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .320.
Edinburgh pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Southwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southwestern hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Edinburgh struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
