Westmont extended their winning streak to nine on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 19-8-1 in the process. They blew past the Northtown Pumas 20-1. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won 15 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Rocco Damato and Nathaniel Ollier made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Damato pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ollier tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Damato got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Ollier went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briggs Templeton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Chinea, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Westmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northtown only posted an OBP of .353.
As for Northtown, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-8. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Northtown's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Flores, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.
Coming up, Westmont is taking a road trip to square off against Walther Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.07 runs per game on average), something the Sentinels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northtown, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Rochelle Zell Jewish at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
