On Saturday, Polo opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-41 loss to Earlville. While losing is never fun, Polo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Earlville is ranked 116th).
Earlville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Oliver Munoz, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Ryan Browder was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Polo and nudges their season record down to 6-7. As for Earlville, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Polo will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against West Carroll at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th. West Carroll is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Earlville, they will head out on the road to face off against Midland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
