Block Island will head out on the road to face off against the Johnston Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Block Island had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They enjoyed a cozy 37-22 win over Blackstone Valley Prep.
Block Island's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haley Conant, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Payne, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Johnston humbled Providence Country Day with a 57-27 victory. 57 seems to be a good number for Johnston as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Block Island's win was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. As for Johnston, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Block Island came up short against Johnston in their previous meeting back in February, falling 46-39. Can Block Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
