The Mountain Empire Redhawks came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 54-13 win over King-Chavez Community at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-8.
Mountain Empire's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Corey Vann led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine steals. Vann has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Sepulveda, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Mountain Empire pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for King-Chavez Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Empire will face off against the Surgeons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for King-Chavez Community, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
