Casa Grande is 0-3 against Cienega since March of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Casa Grande is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Casa Grande turned things around against Catalina Foothills on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Falcons.
Marissa Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit.
At the plate, Casa Grande let Malea Urquides and Isabel Gipson run wild. Urquides went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Gipson went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Trinity Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Casa Grande was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cienega got the win against Nogales on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-2. Considering the Bobcats have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie Bristol tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.
On the hitting side, Alexa Yarger was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Micaela Valenzuela, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Casa Grande's record is now 13-6. As for Cienega, their record now sits at 14-10.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Casa Grande has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Cienega struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
