Emmy Raines spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKinsey Beyer, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Zoe Horning was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Desert Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saguaro only posted a batting average of .154.
Meanwhile, Arizona College Prep made easy work of Centennial on Monday and carried off a 13-3 win. Considering the Knights have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Arizona College Prep also got a great performance from Liliana Gagnon as she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Shelby O'Donnal was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Estrella, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Desert Mountain pushed their record up to 20-1-1 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Arizona College Prep, their record now sits at 20-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Arizona College Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
