Garinger is 0-10 against Independence since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Garinger Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the Independence Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Independence took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Garinger, who comes in off a win.
Garinger has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 30 points or more this season. They blew past East Mecklenburg 67-37 on the road. Given Garinger's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while East Mecklenburg is ranked 432nd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Garinger found their leader in underclassman Misa Garris, who scored 31 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The contest was Garris' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hawah Donzo, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Independence unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Charlotte Catholic by a score of 50-48. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Independence has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kaylee Carson, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Carson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kamryn Kitchen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Garinger's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Independence, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-1.
Garinger took a serious blow against Independence when the teams last played back in January, falling 59-22. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Garinger was down 34-9.
