It was a good run, but the Legacy Lightning unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. Their tough 67-43 defeat to Denver East might stick with them for a while. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Legacy of the 56-48 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Legacy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Olivia Mortensen. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 48.8% of Legacy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Meghan Allshouse, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Jennesse Byrd continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Denver East, scoring 23 points along with five assists and three steals. Byrd is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ligia Thortvedt, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Legacy's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Denver East, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8.
Legacy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mountain Range at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. Legacy is facing Mountain Range at the right time seeing as Mountain Range is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Denver East, they will be playing at home against Far Northeast W at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Denver East has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 502 points over their last seven matches.
