After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Tyler, the Marshall Mavericks were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 win over Hallsville. That's another feather in the cap for Marshall, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Marshall can attribute much of their success to Ka'leehia Williams, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Helton, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Marshall's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15. As for Hallsville, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-17.
Marshall will take on Pine Tree at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Pine Tree is ranked 772nd, while Marshall is ranked 788th). As for Hallsville, they will head out on the road to face off against Whitehouse at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
