The Parrish Community Bulls will square off against the Riverview Sarasota Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Parrish Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Parrish Community is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Venice just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 9-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Bulls were not able to get on the board.
Parrish Community got a good showing from Brycen Volz, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Volz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverview Sarasota). They blew past Mariner 11-5 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their two-run performance the game before.
Jaxon Nessmith looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Logan Cocco was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caiden Cabral, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Riverview Sarasota kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Parrish Community's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Riverview Sarasota, the win snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 4-15 record.
Riverview Sarasota's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Parrish Community has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. It's a different story for Riverview Sarasota, though, as they've only averaged .328. Will they be able to contain Parrish Community's hitters?
Parrish Community beat Riverview Sarasota 7-4 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Bulls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
