Baseball Game Preview: Delone Catholic Squires vs. James Buchanan Rockets

The Delone Catholic Squires will square off against the James Buchanan Rockets at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Delone Catholic's win against Fairfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Delone Catholic narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fairfield 9-8. The Squires haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Mason Hewitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hewitt was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Aiden Groft was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Staub, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, James Buchanan owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Greencastle-Antrim, sneaking past 2-0.

Delone Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for James Buchanan, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Delone Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like James Buchanan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts.
