Liberty extended the longest winning streak in I Sunrise - Southeast this week by beating Basic, 63-42. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Patriots.
Del Sol fell to Coronado 43-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Liberty's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Newman threw for 448 and 5 touchdowns and Deseon Mcquaig had 111 yards receiving. On the ground Calvin Tubbs contributed 108 yards. Chris Reed helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 107 yards.
He was 28-37 with 0 interceptions.
Mcquaig was the best receiver in the league this week as Rich Muraco's team beat the Wolves. Mcquaig racked up 7 receptions for 111 yards. Reed helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 107 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Newman of the Patriots is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,544. He has also thrown 31 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is David Persi. The Foothill star has 42 catches for 696 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Foothill and Liberty. The Falcons enters the contest ranked 25th in the state, while the Patriots ranks fifth.
Next week's game between Liberty and Foothill will feature an aerial matchup as Newman tests his arm against Aedan Bartolowits's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when Martin Redmond's team and the Patriots face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Falcons comes in having scored 268 this season, while Liberty has scored 372. Foothill scored 42 points last week as it topped Eldorado.
The Dragons made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,382 from 12,533. The improvement was the result of a 43-8 victory over Del Sol last week.
