Masconomet Regional and Danvers are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but not for long. The Chieftains will square off against the Falcons at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Masconomet Regional will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Masconomet Regional got the win against Saugus by a conclusive 3-0.
Masconomet Regional was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-10, 25-17, 25-17.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Masconomet Regional to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elise Clapp, who had seven aces and five digs. Those seven aces gave Clapp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lidia Benedetto, who had 12 digs and two assists.
They weren't the only good servers: Masconomet Regional was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in 12 consecutive matches.
Danvers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since August 28th (when they won 3-0). They put the hurt on Winthrop with a sharp 3-0 win.
The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-13.
Masconomet Regional's record is now 9-6. As for Danvers, their record now sits at 5-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Masconomet Regional has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 14.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Danvers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Masconomet Regional took their victory against Danvers when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chieftains since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
