Softball Recap: Buchanan Sets Scoring Season-High Against Clovis

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buchanan). Everything went their way against the Clovis Cougars on Thursday as they made off with a 12-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brooklyn Ainsworth made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harmony McMurry, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Addy Schafer was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Buchanan lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Buchanan's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Clovis, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buchanan will challenge Monache at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Marauders will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clovis, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Clovis North at 6:30 p.m.
