Stillwater has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton Wolverines at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Stillwater rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on Canajoharie/Fort Plain with a sharp 35-14 win.
Stillwater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon Mueller led the charge by rushing for 113 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 20 yards and a touchdown. Lukas Lilac also helped out as he racked up 159 rushing yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Canajoharie/Fort Plain to a paltry 246 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Stillwater's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Mueller and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Cambridge/Salem 69-15 at home. With Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton ahead 63-15 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Gavin McCabe, who rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 62 receiving yards. McCabe has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Nick Jeckel also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Stillwater pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Stillwater has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 287.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton struggles in that department as they've been even better at 364.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
Stillwater was dealt a bruising 50-7 defeat at the hands of Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton in their previous matchup back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton's Ben Sheldon, who rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also picked up 71 receiving yards.
