The Polk County Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Sweetwater by a score of 50-47. Polk County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sweetwater apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Sweetwater found their leader in underclassman Lilly Woodruff, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 21 rebounds. The matchup was Woodruff's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Gibby, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Polk County bumped their record down to 4-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sweetwater, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12.
Polk County will take on Meigs County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sweetwater, they will head out on the road to face off against McMinn Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McMinn Central is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
