Basketball Recap: Uwharrie Charter Academy Comes Up Short

Uwharrie Charter Academy was the 43-40 winner over Wheatmore when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles fell 52-42 to the Wheatmore Warriors on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Uwharrie Charter Academy still got an impressive performance from Nevaeh Staples, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Staples has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Brown, who posted three points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Uwharrie Charter Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Uwharrie Charter Academy's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Wheatmore, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.

Uwharrie Charter Academy and Wheatmore should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Uwharrie Charter Academy (ranked 144th) will meet Trinity (ranked 385th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Wheatmore will take on Eastern Randolph at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 254 places (175 vs. 429).
