The Granada Bobcats lost against the Springfield Longhorns back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Granada suffered a rough 54-31 loss at the hands of Springfield. Granada was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-7.
Despite the loss, Granada still got an impressive performance from Jonus Guevara, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That was a full 45.2% of Granada's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Springfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Colby Batterton led the charge by scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Batterton is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Swanson, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Granada bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.0 points per game. As for Springfield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Granada will take on La Veta at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully La Veta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 back in December of 2023. As for Springfield, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Cheyenne Wells at 2:00 p.m. Cheyenne Wells presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springfield in Colorado (Cheyenne Wells is ranked 38th, while Springfield is ranked 145th).
