Rock Hill is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They will venture away from home to face off against the Clover Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If Rock Hill beats Clover with 14 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Rock Hill never let Andrew Jackson get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Thursday. The Bearcats have beaten the Volunteers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Volunteers has come to flipping the script.
Walker Thomason was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Thomason was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and seven RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Tobias, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gabe Cassidy, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Clover faced Blacksburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Clover put the hurt on Blacksburg with a sharp 10-0 win. The Blue Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.
Clover also got a great performance from Aiden Smith as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. What's more, Smith gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, TJ McCluney was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kieran Noel, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
The victory got Clover back to even at 2-2. As for Rock Hill, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Rock Hill skirted past Clover 10-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rock Hill since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
