Football Recap: Mountain View Piles Up the Points Against Sunnyside

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Marana, Mountain View was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 28-0 victory over the Sunnyside Blue Devils. Considering the Mountain Lions have won five matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mountain View was led to victory by Drake Davis and Ion Brin. Davis rushed for 252 yards while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, while Brin rushed for 91 yards and one score on only six carries. Brin got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 93 yards. Devin Loya was in the mix as well, providing Mountain View with two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mountain View was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Mountain View's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Jason Pogue and Caden Rudy, who racked up five sacks between them. Rudy is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last four games he's played. Mountain View received some extra help from Loya, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.5 points over those games. As for Sunnyside, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Mountain View will challenge Buena at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Mountain Lions will need to watch out since the Colts have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. Sunnyside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
